Genomics: The Science and Application of Genomic Testing for Nutrition Professionals with Dr. Roberta Kline and Dr. Joe R. Veltmann

Nutrition Professionals who want to provide personalized recommendations using genomic testing will want to attend this webinar! As nutrition professionals, we provide oodles of information about diet, nutritional supplements, exercise regimens and lifestyle choices. Providing personalized recommendations can be daunting because everyone is a unique human being based his/her genotype and what might work for one person may not work for another. Our genotype--the genes that make up our DNA code and provide the blueprint for the proteins our bodies need to function--can be difficult to decipher if we rely solely on a person's phenotype, traits or physical characteristics.

Hawthorn University’s Holistic Health and Nutrition Webinar Series welcomes Dr. Roberta Kline and Dr. Joe R. Veltmann for Part One of their two-part genomic testing series, Genomics: The Science and Application of Genomic Testing for Nutrition Professionals, Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015 at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST.

With the completion of the Human Genome Project and the advent of genomic testing, today there is a new tool in a nutrition professional's tool box to:

• provide personalized programs to nutritionally support a client during a disease process;
• use specific nutritional therapies to decrease the risk of chronic diseases as part of a disease-prevention program;
• understand the biochemistry behind your nutritional recommendations;  and
• be part of the genomic revolution that is occurring in medicine, the nutritional sciences and across the entire spectrum of healthcare.

Part One will discuss the science behind genomic testing and how best to interpret genomic results using real-life examples from our clinical files.

Join us 10 minutes early at 3:50 PM PST / 6:50 PM EST for our Book Nook segment where Paula Bartholomy and Hawthorn graduate Rande Freedman.

Dr. Roberta Kline is a physician, author, teacher and entrepreneur who is passionate about empowering others with the knowledge and tools they need to create health of mind, body and spirit. Board-certified in Ob-Gyn, with additional expertise in functional medicine, genomics, epigenetics, and multiple healing modalities, she actively shares her knowledge and vision with others through teaching, collaboration, and speaking. Dr. Bobbi is cofounder (with Dr. Joe Veltmann) and CEO of Genomic Solutions NOW!, NCG Health Solutions, and GENESIS Center 4 Personalized Health, dedicated to transforming healthcare through teaching others how to create individualized health unique to each person’s DNA.

Joe R. Veltmann PhD FAAIM DCCN is a scientist, healthcare practitioner, expert in genomic testing and interpretation, author, teacher and innovator. With over twenty-five years of experience as a researcher, and nutritional, functional and integrative medicine practitioner, Dr. Joe has made a career of translating lab results into practical clinical applications for patients. Today, Dr. Joe is co-founder of Genomic Solutions NOW and GENESIS Center 4 Personalized Health, which offer genomic testing, clinical interpretation, consulting and engaging, informative webinars educating healthcare professionals and the general public about the benefits of genomics in the prevention and treatment of cancer and other chronic diseases.

National Health Freedom Action organizations gearing for the next legislative session!

NHFA is over half way to raising the needed
$10,000 by October 15
So we have what it takes to work for your health freedom!
Can you chip in today to help us reach our goal?

National Health Freedom Action is preparing for the next legislative session and we expect it to be intense.  Following the passage of CA SB 277, which removed parents’ rights to philosophical and religious exemptions from vaccine requirements, we expect similar bills to crop up all over the country.  And the federal DARK Act, which would take state's rights away for labeling of GMO's is on its way to the Senate after passing the House.

NHFA is working with state health freedom groups to pass safe harbor bills that protect consumer access to holistic practitioners.  We are thrilled that this past spring, Nevada succeeded in passing legislation that gives many holistic healers an exemption from medical practice acts.  With your help, we now want to add more states to the list of ten with safe harbor legislation.  Our goal is nothing short of all 50 states ensuring legal access to holistic practitioners!

Every project we work on depends on our mass eblasts that enable citizens to quickly and easily send a message to their state legislators.

Can you chip in to help NHFA maintain the subscription to the costly software needed to propel our health freedom work?  Your donation of $35 literally powers the grass-roots movement for health freedom!

You can donate by going here: https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/NationalHealthFreedomAction/NHFA_donate.htm

to help NHFA keep mobilizing citizens for health freedom!

We are over half way to the needed $10,000 by October 15!
Only $4,515 is still needed.

Become a Monthly Donor and support NHFA’s work on your behalf.

Click on “Make a one-time general donation or a monthly recurring donation”
Click on “I would like this gift to occur monthly”.
Your gift of $10 per month counts as $120 toward our goal.

We need only 37 more donors pledging $10 per month to reach our goal.
Will you be one of them?
Because NHFA is actively lobbying on your behalf, donations are not tax-deductible

4 Weeks to Wellness Challenge for Hawthorn students & graduates

Team Hawthorn,

Our recent graduate and published author, Tarah Chieffi is running a 4 Weeks to Wellness Challenge program starting in October. Originally a community based program, Tarah is expanding this online and extending it at a steep discount of only $10/household for Hawthorn students and graduates. This is an excellent and affordable way to learn how to create, implement, and market a program (thesis project, anyone?)!

About the program:
This is NOT a weight loss challenge; it is a challenge meant to teach people what real food is and some practical ways to work it into their lives, and also WHY eating real food is important.

The rules are no foods with refined sugar or artificial sweeteners, no fast food and no sodas. Label reading, which oils are healthy for cooking, and even prizes based on participating, and other tips will be shared. Tarah also provides meal plans and a grocery list each week, and free copies of both of her recipe eBooks.

To learn more or to sign up, please visit Tarah at: http://www.whatigather.com/ or http://www.whatigather.com/2015/09/time-to-get-junk-out-join.htmlEnter coupon code "Hawthorn" at the checkout.

Say NO to Benzodiazepines for Anxiety! with Trudy Scott, CN

On Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST Hawthorn University's Holistic Nutrition Webinar Series. will present Food Mood Expert Trudy Scott, CN.

Professor Malcolm H. Lader says it well: "It is more difficult to withdraw people from benzodiazepines than it is from heroin.”

Explore the use of benzodiazepines for anxiety (and other conditions) when  Hawthorn University welcomes Food Mood Expert Trudy Scott, CN as she presents Say NO to Benzodiazepines for Anxiety!

Benzodiazepines are a class of psychoactive drugs that work by enhancing the effect of the calming neurotransmitter GABA, and are used to treat anxiety, insomnia, pain, muscle spasms and a range of other conditions. They are widely prescribed, particularly among elderly patients and may even be used off-label with children with autism.

Use of this medication is very controversial. We know long term use leads to tolerance, dependence, and many adverse psychological effects and even physical effects. Short term use is generally considered safe but even using them for 2 - 4 weeks can lead to problems for certain individuals.

This presentation provides an overview of benzodiazepines; when they are used; who they are prescribed to; details about tolerance, dependence, and the many adverse effects; how to taper, including nutritional support during the taper; what to do instead of saying yes to a benzodiazepine prescription in the first place; and additional resources.

Please join us at 3:50 PM PST / 6:50 PM EST for our pre-webinar announcements segment.

Are Your Genes Depressing You? - MTHFR & Your Mood with Coleen Walsh, MFA, MNT

This webinar is Part Two of MTHFR & Methylation with Coleen Walsh, MFA, MNT. Join us for an important review of the methylation cycle before we dive in and reveal how depletion of certain nutrients can affect our mood.  Many of these nutrients are processed within the Methylation cycle and defects in these pathways can lead to an imbalance.  We will discuss how the MTHFR enzyme affects the BH4/Neurotransmitter cycle and which B vitamins act as co-factors. In this webinar, Coleen Walsh will show that our genes are not our destiny and discuss how diet, lifestyle changes and supplementation can support our client’s emotional health.

You're invited to join us on Tue, Sep 1, 2015 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM PDT on Hawthorn's Holistic Health and Nutrition Webinar Series.

Coleen Walsh is a Master Nutrition Therapist, Functional Nutritionist and the owner of Harvesting Nutrition, LLC. She specializes in MTHFR & Methylation education and one on one client consultations incorporating genetics with nutrition and lifestyle practices. Coleen has been dubbed the “The Methyl Queen” by colleagues and is the winner of the 2014 NANP Impact Award for her research & training programs. She teaches and consults with MDs, NDs, L.Acs, DOs, Nutritionists and the general public. "MTHFR & Methylation: The Big Picture - Part 1" with Coleen Walsh

Join Coleen Walsh on Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST as she presents Part One of MTHFR & Methylation: The Big Picture in order to broaden your understanding of MTHFR.  Almost half of the population has a defect in the MTHFR gene, and even more people have Methylation SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms or genetic mutations). The MTHFR SNP is at a key position in the Methylation Cycle and if not working properly, it can affect the whole pathway - creating symptoms and disease.  While methylation cycle abnormalities can predispose us to disease, epigenetic factors can help guide our recommendations and protocols.  This webinar  will present the basis for  understanding MTHFR, Methylation and Epigenetics and provide tips on diet and lifestyle practices to address these SNPs in this complex biochemical pathway as well as how and when to gently support detoxification.

Join us early at 3:50 PM PST / 6:50 PM EST for our Food News You Can Use! segment featuring guest Mira Dessy of http://www.GrainsandMore.com.
